CONRAD — A train that derailed near Conrad sparked a hayfield fire on Monday.
Conrad Fire Chief Kevin Mortiz said the derailment of a BNSF train happened at around 4 p.m. on Monday.
He says approximately 10 cars derailed, and the incident sparked a wildfire in a nearby hayfield.
No injuries or major damage to the rail cars were reported.
The fire was contained to the one hayfield, and several hay bales burned.
Jamie Mullins -- who shared a video of the incident with MTN News -- said that it happened near United Grain just south of Conrad.
"Thankfully some cowboys with a water truck came and got it pretty under control and then the fire trucks came and got the rest. It was wild," Mullins said.
There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the derailment is being investigated.
