MISSOULA – This week’s Arts and Education report heads over to Washington Middle School where the Missoula Youth Orchestra was recently gearing up for one big performance.

The Missoula Youth Orchestra was chosen to perform at the National Association for Music Education Conference in Portland Oregon.

It’s an event that brings student and educators from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming together for several days of music performances and music development.

“These students were selected because they did an audition last year and it’s highly competitive because there are a lot of folks that want to come to this conference and show off their groups,” Missoula County Public Schools Fine Arts Supervisor John Combs said.

“And so we only pick the best of the best.  And it’s not just the best in one state, it is the best in the six state region.  So they were a top pick for middle school kids,” he added.

The conference took place last weekend, and unfortunately, because of the snow and road closures on I-90 they were not able to make to the event.
