The first round of the British Open kicked off today, and the weather has not been friendly to players, with rain and wind making the conditions difficult.
As usual, all eyes were on three-time British Open champ Tiger Woods as he teed off from the first hole.
However, Woods was seen grimacing immediately after he teed off, and people immediately began to speculate that he was dealing with an injury. Was it his notoriously bad back, which has plagued the 43-year-old in the past? Or was he grimacing at the sight of his ball going into the rough?
While Woods was able to save par after his poor opening shot and he has not shown any signs of discomfort since, the concerns that he is playing through an injury remain top of mind for many.
Woods has not played since the US Open last month, and his appearances have been less frequent over the years as he allows his body to rest more between tournaments. His last major tournament win came in April when he won the Masters, and before that, his last major championship came in 2008 when he won the US Open.
Woods has not played well so far. He is six over and tied for 141st place, and he didn’t birdie until the 15th hole while bogeying several other holes.
