MISSOULA – The Montana Food Bank Network is once again teaming up with Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks to fill the freezers of those in need.
Hunters Against Hunger allows hunters to donate a portion or all of their legally harvested big game animals to authorized meat processors located throughout Montana at no charge.
The meat is processed and then given to the nearest local food pantry. Over 40,000 pounds of game meat was donated last year.
Participation by local meat processors and hunters are the keys to the success of Hunters Against Hunger and the Montana Food Bank Network is happy to play their part.
“Montana Food Bank Network actually covers the processing fee, so there is no charge to the hunters for donating the meat, which then goes into the food pantry’s in their local area,” said Montana Food Bank Chief Programs Officer Stephanie Stratton.
Hunters who purchase a Montana hunting license are given the opportunity to make a monetary donation to the program, and additional donations are being accepted by the Food Bank Network.
