MISSOULA — A choir made up of a mix of middle school students grades six to eight have a special performance coming up.

They call themselves the CS Portaliers and they are among the top voices at CS Porter. They are among the handful of choirs state wide to be selected to sing at the American Choral Directors Association North West Conference in March.

In total 32, children from the local middle school will be representing the CS Portaliers.

“Many choirs and schools select recordings of their choirs and they select a handful to represent the northwest region. And this year the Portaliers were selected to sing there, so we are very excited.” says CS Porter music director, Chris Whiteman.

The other choirs that will be coming to this event range from states like Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

One of the highlights these kids get to experience as they sing at the conference will be when they premier a brand new song, written just for them by a world famous composer, Jim Papoulis.

"He is a really awesome composer,” says Whiteman. “We are world premiering a piece that was written specifically for us."

There are six choir classes are available at the middle school for their students in grades six, seven and eight.
