One Class at a Time: DeSmet School

MISSOULA – This week’s One Class at a time winner is DeSmet School first grade teacher Beth Ryan.

Republic Services Municipal Manager Chad Bauer presented Ryan with a $250 check from Republic Services and KPAX-TV.

Ryan will use the grant to a purchase a reading program for her students that supplements the material already in the classroom.

She’s working with the University of Montana to find the most effective option.

Ryan says supplemental programs have been shown to help students both in the immediate future and with long-term success.

“I want a program that’s hands-on that we can do together, they’re excited about, we can touch and track, and also that will enhance comprehension, their language, imagination, creativity, understanding, and so it’s not just reading.,” Ryan said.
