MISSOULA – This week’s KPAX-TV and Republic Services One Class at a Time winner is Rattlesnake Elementary School fifth grade science teacher Sara Ibis.

KPAX General Manager Bob Hermes presented Ibis a $250 check which will go toward science supplies.

She says her students can use a number of items both inside the classroom and on their outdoor field trips to Rattlesnake Creek and the Clark Fork River.

This includes books that provide information on some of the macroinvertebrates they find in the water, as well as scales, rulers and tape measures.

Ibis hopes the new equipment will stimulate the classroom to be more curious.

“I hope that kids gain a sense of curiosity and a sense of wonder, and I think by opening their eyes to science and science exploration they get really curious about the natural world,” Ibis said. “It prompts them to ask questions, I think it prompts them to think critically about the world and what they are learning.”
