MISSOULA – Bonner School first grade teacher Kirsten Vogel is this week’s winner of a Republic Services and KPAX-TV One Class at a Time Grant.
Republic Services Marketing Manager Chad Bauer presented Vogel with a $250 check, which will be used to purchase musical instruments for the classroom music center.
Among the instruments she’s investing in are keyboards and a xylophon, in addition to headphones.
Vogel says her song-writing unit gives her students the opportunity to express themselves in a way they aren’t always able to in other learning areas.
“Any time music is added, it’s just so much fun, Vogel said. “So it adds the excitement of education and, also, the self-expression is just so important for kids to be able to know that their voice matters.”
