MISSOULA – Hawthorne Elementary School music teacher Brenda Griggs is this week’s winner of a Republic Services and KPAX-TV One Class at a Time grant.
Republic Services Marketing Manager Chad Bauer presented Griggs with a check for $250 which will be used to purchase ukuleles for her music class.
Griggs says she’s been working on getting a set of ukuleles for each student for a while now.
The PTA has pitched in, and she has used her school budget, but it still wasn’t enough. The additional funds now allow her to reach her goal.
She believes this is another way for her students to grow musically in and out of the classroom.
“They can learn it here, take it home, just increase that learning from what we do in the classroom to what they can do in their own life,” Griggs said.
