MISSOULA — Hawthorne Elementary School first grade teacher Sydney Allen is this week’s One Class at a Time winner.
KPAX-TV General Manager Bob Hermes delivered the Republic Services and KPAX sponsored $250 check.
Allen says it can be tough to work with students in small groups and individually without having a way to keep her students engaged. She says math manipulatives are the perfect learning tool, and allows her students to work alone or in groups so she can give each individual the help they need.
“When you invest in math manipulatives, you give them good activities that are worth their time. They’re learning, they’re engaged, and they’re working the entire time which gives you the time to work independently with a small group and one-on-one, and it’s just so valuable," Allen said.
