MISSOULA — This week's KPAX and Republic Services One Class at a Time winner is Jefferson Preschool Occupational Therapist Laura Liedtka.

Republic Services Municipal Manager Chad Bauer along with KPAX General Manager Bob Hermes awarded Liedtka $250 which will be used to buy fine and visual motor skills games for her classroom.

She says these skills are so important for overall early childhood development, and that students who are lacking those visual and fine skills tend to participate less in class activities. Liedtka is excited her students will be able to have access to these games.

“Games with like toys which will help to develop the muscles in the hands that will later be used for reading and writing, puzzles that help you use your eyes and hands together which is also a skill that you use for reading and writing,” Liedtka explained.

“So really building those strong foundations for reading and writing that children will use throughout their educational career,” Liedtka said.
