STEVENSVILLE — Lone Rock School fifth grade teacher Eve Wight is this week’s KPAX-TV and Republic Services One Class at a Time grant winner.
Republic Services Municipal Manager Chad Bauer, presented the $250 award to Wight, which will be used to buy a classroom set of up-to-date atlases.
Wight says some may feel like atlases are outdated due to having GPS and Google Mapping at our fingertips, but she says they’re more important than ever.
She says it teaches special relations, and students who grasp the importance of spatial relationships and mapping in their mind have a better path to success in school and beyond.
“If you think about not just reading maps but things like construction, design, marketing, any kind of engineering, physics, biology, computer technology, and even coding are all about those spatial relation skills,” Wight explained.
