MISSOULA — Missoula’s Lowell Elementary School social worker Kristen Kallemeyn is this week’s One Class at a Time grant winner.
KPAX General Manager Bob Hermes and Republic Services Municipal Manager Chad Bauer presented the check to Kallemeyn which will be used to purchase materials and supplies geared toward social and emotional learning.
She says the school made it a priority this year to focus more on those skills as a fundamental part of a student’s education.
Teachers from kindergarten through fifth grade are incorporating social and emotional skills into their everyday academic routine, partly through the use of books, videos, puppets, and other materials.
“These lessons, they help students apply knowledge and skills to develop healthy identities, to manage their emotions, to maintain supportive relationships," Kallemeyn said.
