MISSOULA — Paxson Elementary School fourth grade teacher Lily Chumrau is this week’s winner of a KPAX-TV and Republic Services One Class at a Time grant winner.
KPAX-TV General Manager Bob Hermes and Republic Services Municipal Manager Chad Bauer presented Chumrau with $250 which will go toward English and Spanish books for her students.
Paxson is a bi-lingual school and Chumrau says it’s so important for her students to have a wide variety of books for her students as they navigate increasing their bi-lingual reading skills.
She says it’s especially important now to have these books available, to take with them as they spend more time learning at home.
“When they’re at home they need to be reading at least 30 minutes to an hour, and some of our students who don’t have those resource at home, I want them to be able to provide them a plentiful classroom library where they can borrow books, take them home, read them, return them and then check out different books," Chumrau said.
