MISSOULA — Russell Elementary School second grade teacher Jenny Owens has a classroom full of budding performers, and she’s looking for funds to support their latest project.

Owens has been selected as this week’s recipient of a One Class at a Time grant sponsored by Republic Services and KPAX-TV.

KPAX-TV General Manager Bob Hermes awarded Owens $250 which will be used to help fund a Roxy Film Academy Residency.

A theater coach is in the classroom teaching the students all aspects of putting a film together.

Students are making a movie about a Japanese Folk Tale.

Owens says her students are learning about the culture of Japan and love creating the movie.

"They wrote the script themselves, the made the props and the background scenes, and they’ve just done everything all themselves. It’s been really relevant and exciting for them," she said.
