One Class at a Time: Sussex School

MISSOULA — This week’s KPAX-TV and Republic Services One Class at a Time winner Missoula Sussex School third and fourth grade teacher Madeline Wenberg.

KPAX General Manager Bob Hermes presented Wenberg with a $250 check that she will use to buy materials for fleece blankets that her students will create.

Sussex students have been in class five days a week this school year and Wenberg says they spend almost their entire day outdoors.

Hands-on learning is a big part of her curriculum, and she says this project will allow her students to work hard on a project they’ll have a lot of input on.

"I really want them to be invested in what they’re doing, and so they’re going to be involved in everything from choosing the patterns and the colors, they’re going to be doing measuring and cutting, and working in groups, and thinking critically," Wenberg said.

"And then they’re going to get to feel that enjoyment of using something that they used their hands and put a lot of work into making,” she concluded.
