POLSON – John Stevens has served in the Polson Police Department for 30 years, and now Polson PD will be looking for a new assistant police chief.
Stevens began his law enforcement career as a cadet for the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office in 1979 before moving into a law enforcement specialist role with the US Air Force.
After about seven years in the military Stevens began his career in Polson as a patrol officer before working his way up to assistant chief.
During his time in Polson, Stevens was a jack of all trades for the force and for the community, serving as a volunteer firefighter, EMT and working for the office of emergency management.
“The jobs been good. I’ve enjoyed helping people. That’s the cliche that I’m here to help people but I’ve also been a problem solver,” Stevens said. “That’s why they call us. They have a problem, so when we respond we take care of the problem or assist in taking care of the problem. Keeping people safe, that’s been my career.”
Stevens mentioned that he plans on spending more time with family, especially with grandkids who are starting to play baseball.
