MISSOULA – Back in December, the Missoula Police Department gave out their annual Christmas donations to help Animeals and Meals on Wheels.

While Christmas is still along ways out, MPD has already started gathering donations for next year.

Every year MPD puts out donation receptacles in their Missoula City Hall location and their new Catlin Street location, and people continually add to the totals.

In their city hall location it’s not just officers that give to the cause, other city hall employees also stop in to add to the donation totals.

This year, MPD gave 500 pounds of pet food and over $1,000 to Animeals and also $3,300 to Meals on Wheels.

“It’s really an organization-wide effort to make sure that not only does Animeals have a good contribution, but also that you know the clients of Meals on Wheels at Missoula aging services have a holiday meal that they can rely on every year,” Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh said.

Welsh tells us that they have been giving to the organizations for 15 years now and that the donation is a holiday tradition for the force.
