MISSOULA — This week’s winner of a KPAX-TV and Republic Services One Class at a Time grant is Sentinel High School counselor and Spartan Ambassadors leader Katie Kirgan.

A check for $250 was presented by KPAX-TV General Manager, Bob Hermes and Republic Services Municipal Manager, Chad Bauer.

Kirgan heads up the Spartan Ambassadors Peer Mentor group at Sentinel. The group of upper-classmen works with incoming freshman over the course of the school year adapt to their new high school life, and hosts events for them along the way. The grant money will help that process.

"We do different events throughout the year. We have a big freshman orientation day, so the money helps with t-shirts, and then we like to host a spirit week barbeque and we’ll get purple and gold beads and face paint," Kirgan said. "And some years we’ve had hot dogs and a barbecue with the funds through there, and other years we’ve just done face-painting and fun things.”
