MISSOULA – P.E. is one of the highlights of the school day for most elementary school children.

It’s that window of opportunity to release their pent-up energy, and have fun with friends.

This week’s One Class at a Time winner is Russell Elementary School teacher Vicki Opstad.

Opstad applied for the grant so she could get peddlers in the classroom for her students that have to sit out for a variety of reasons.  The $250 grant, sponsored by Republic Services and KPAX-TV, will go toward the purchase of peddlers.

KPAX General Manager Bob Hermes awarded the check to Opstad,

“Just to keep kids active the whole time, that’s my goal when they come in, is that they’re moving, and active, and having fun, and so since the kids are participating and then that child can’t participate, they get to still do something," Opstad said.
