KALISPELL – A Columbia Falls man is behind bars after a dispute during a family outing led to shots being fired Sunday evening near Moose Lake.
Justin Neil Barnett, 32, faces two counts of assault with a weapon after police say he fired a gun into an occupied car at his girlfriend and her brother.
Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says an argument started after a child of the girlfriend cut his foot while fishing. The woman wanted to take the child into town for medical care, but Barnett reportedly didn’t think it was necessary.
During the ensuing argument, Barnett allegedly fired a handgun into the hood of her car while someone was inside it. Barnett was later pulled over and arrested by sheriff’s deputies.
Sheriff Curry says he believes alcohol was involved in the incident.
