Montana fire crews are stepping up and heading to California to help fight the massive blazes burning across the state.
Close to 100 firefighters and about 20 fire engines are headed west, including crews from Missoula.
The Missoula Rural Fire District is sending two engines and six firefighters along with several other Montana agencies to assist with the firefighting efforts.
“We wish them all safe travels and want to send a special thank you to the family members who are selflessly keeping everything running at home while they are gone for a two week assignment,” MRFD said in a Sunday post on social media.
Meanwhile, three fire trucks from Columbus and Red Lodge hit the road for California on Sunday morning.
“That’s what we do. As a fire service in particular. We’re having a conference down here where we talk about how we are family. It’s what we do and what our mission statements are,” Columbus Rural Fire District Chief Rich Cowger said.
