HELENA – Two law enforcement officers in the Helena area were honored by Montana Attorney General Tim Fox on Monday.
Brandon Wootan with the Helena Police Department and Neil Marks, a Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s deputy, received “Officer of the Year” awards.
The Helena Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (DVSA) Working Group and the Friendship Center were on hand to celebrate the officers’ achievements.
The purpose of the award is to recognize law enforcement officers whose critical roles focus on serving victims of sexual and domestic abuse.
“I worked as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Toole County, and I got a lot of special training in this area and it’s been something I’ve been very passionate about and want to continue to get better at it,” Wootan explained.
Marks said anyone who has an issue with sexual assault or domestic violence can turn to the LCSO or HPD for help.
“There’s a number of resources in the Helena area that are very unique and very beneficial,” he said.
Wootan has worked in law enforcement for six years and Marks for two years.
