Additional COVID-19 death reported in Toole County

Another COVID-19 death is being reported in Montana.

Gov. Steve Bullock issued the following statement regarding the death of a Montanan due to COVID-19, marking the 11th in the state.

“As we continue to learn more about how this virus can impact a rural community, I’m grateful for the dedicated health care workers serving on the frontline and encourage all Montanans to continue doing everything they can to stop this virus. My family is with the family of this Montanan and the Toole County community.”

Notification of the death was provided by the Toole County Health Department.

This marks the fifth COVID-19 death in Toole County. COVID-19 deaths have also been reported in Cascade, Flathead, Lincoln, Madison, Missoula and Yellowstone counties.

The official state website has not yet been updated to reflect the latest death.

To date, there have been 29 confirmed cases in Toole County, and 15 patients are listed as recovered. The Toole County Public Health Department says that there is one patient currently hospitalized.

On a per-capita basis, Toole County has been hit harder than any other county in Montana by the COVID-19 pandemic. Toole County has a population of about 4,900; the town of Shelby, which is the county seat, has about 3,200 people.
