BOZEMAN – A Bozeman man was arrested after allegedly charging at and fighting with a Bozeman police officer at a gas station on Monday night.
Anthony Lewis Johnson, 18, who is charged with assault on a peace officer, appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court on Tuesday where his bail was set at $7,500.
According to court documents, an officer responding to a 911 hang-up call located Johnson at a gas station on the 1800 block of Baxter Lane.
Johnson was reportedly standing outside a white Honda passenger car, yelling, when the officer got out of his patrol car holding his flashlight.
Court documents say Johnson charged at the officer and initially followed commands to get back.
The officer reported that Johnson then started pacing back and forth and charged the officer again in an aggressive stance and did not follow commands to get back.
The officer struck Johnson’s body with his flashlight multiple times as Johnson grabbed at his face and body armor.
Johnson then allegedly grabbed for the officer’s Taser and firearm, and the officer struck him above the left eye with his flashlight.
A second officer arrived as the fight ensued, and the two were able to subdue and handcuff Johnson.
Both the officer and Johnson were taken to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Johnson was cleared for incarceration, and after being read his rights reportedly denied remembering any details of the incident.
Johnson’s next court date is scheduled for Feb. 15.
