THOMPSON FALLS – A months-long investigation has led to an arrest in a May 2018 murder case in Northwest Montana.

Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel says that Danielle Jeanette Wood is facing a deliberate homicide charge in connection with the May 2018 death of Matthew George Lafriniere.

Wood was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and is being held on $1 million bond in the Sanders County jail.

Sheriff Rummel is also thanking the Montana Department of Justice for their help in the investigation.

Law enforcement responded to reports of a man found unresponsive on May 3, 2018, shortly before 2 p.m.

Officers from the Sheriff’s Office and Thompson Falls Police Dept. responded to the scene where Lafriniere was found dead at the scene.

Sheriff Tom Rummel had said in a social media post on August 7, 2018, that “a lot of evidence has been collected and submitted to the Montana Crime Lab in Missoula and it takes time to process this evidence.”

We’ll have more information on this developing story as it becomes available.

Correction: A previous version of this story indicated that the death occurred in August of 2018. That was incorrect.
