The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office has released more details in a vehicle theft investigation that led to the arrest of a suspect who fled on foot on Sunday, April 20, 2025.
The Sheriff's Office said in a press release the suspect allegedly stole a vehicle from a residence on Baker Street in Belgrade around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The owner was reportedly present at the time, witnessed the theft, and pursued the suspect until he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
According to the release, witnesses said the suspect may have had a rifle at the time he fled.
The Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 40-year-old Travis Kamps of Belgrade.
He was located on Countryside Lane after an extensive search of the area by the Sheriff's Office, Belgrade Police Department, and Montana Highway Patrol. Kamps was taken into custody without incident.
Kamps is being held without bond at the Gallatin County Detention Center on a charge of felony theft.
