MISSOULA — Approximately 50 firefighters are on the scene of a wildfire that is burning west of Thompson Falls.
The fire -- which is estimated at eight acres -- is burning about 10 air miles west of Thompson Falls in the Prospect Creek drainage.
The Lolo National Forest reports no structures are threatened.
A Helena Hot Shot crew, additional firefighters from the Superior Rural Fire District and more crews from the Plains/Thompson Falls headed out to fight the blaze on Friday morning.
Fire managers say that aircraft were also called to the scene.
The Shorty Fire was discovered at approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday.
