Crews knock down small fire at Kalispell business

KALISPELL – Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire at a Kalispell business on Monday morning.

The Kalispell Fire Department was called out a to the Scott Publishing Company in the 300 block of North Main Street at approximately 8:55 a.m. for a report of smoke.

The business houses a portion of the 1895 carriage house, that once accompanied the Conrad Mansion.

Fire officials report that the first unit arrived within four minutes of the initial dispatch and immediately requested 911 Dispatch to upgrade the call to a structure fire.

The fire and fire damage was contained to the room of origin with moderate smoke damage reported throughout the building.

The Kalispell Fire Department, the Evergreen Fire Department, the Smith Valley Fire Department, the Kalispell Police Department and Braveheart Chaplaincy all responded to the scene.

A total of 16 firefighters were needed to control the incident which closed the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 93 and East Oregon Street were closed for approximately an hour.

The fire cause and extent of damages are still under investigation.  Fire officials say that the initial indicators are that the fire was unintentional and electrical in nature.
