KALISPELL – Band Director David Barr says this is the first time in his 13 years as director that the Glacier High School band has been selected to play on Memorial Day in Washington D.C.

Glacier HS is one of up to fifty bands that will be in D.C. on Memorial Day. One band is chosen from every state around the country.

Right now, the band needs to raise $1,600-per-student in order to make the trip. Barr is asking each student to raise half that amount, and then the rest will be funded by grants and private donors.

For many students, this is a trip of a lifetime.

“The kids are super excited, and there are some of our students that haven’t been out of the state and some that haven’t flown on an airplane before, and now we’re going to do both.”

The repertoire has not been selected yet, although Barr tells us they will be playing one patriotic song for the judges and then will be able to chose the rest

If you would like to donate to help get the Glacier High School band to Washington D.C. this summer, please send a check to Glacier High School. You can also  call 403-758-8687 for donations and more information.
