KALISPELL – The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help as they look to get two K-9 units for their office.

Sheriff Brian Heino says they are looking to get two Labradors for their deputies. The total cost of the program is $20,000 including training and dog food.

Their primary duty would be to help out the narcotics unit, but would also be used as a community outreach program.

GoFundMe campaign was created by two deputies in the sheriff’s office, and raised about $2,000 in the first 18 hours.

The money will go to the Flathead Community Foundation which will get the initiative off the ground.

Heino says projects like this keep him excited about the often challenging job.

“It’s an energy, so keeping that energy going is how we’re going to accomplish things. And sometimes there’s just an excitement, and getting the right people in those positions to work with that is huge.”

Heino is hopeful that they will be using K-9’s as soon as six weeks from now.
