KALISPELL – Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino is issuing a warning that towing cars from public roadways using your own personal vehicle is illegal and dangerous.

Sheriff Heino recommends if your car is stuck in a ditch to call the professionals to help.

He elaborated by telling MTN News that professional towing companies have larger trucks and signs to keep you safe if you’re out on a busy road.

In some cases, people can get seriously hurt trying to help tow folks out, Sheriff Heino added.

“A lot of instances have occurred where, when towing a vehicle the straps could break and cause injuries to yourself or the vehicle,” Sheriff Heino said.

“And then the other part is we have great men and women who run our tow truck towing services here that are professionally trained,” he added.

When help does arrive Sheriff Heino asks people to make sure that everyone stays clear from the towing site.
