WHITEFISH – A skier triggered an avalanche in a restricted area of Whitefish Mountain Resort Thursday afternoon.

Spokesperson Riley Polumbus says warmer weather has bumped up the chance of snow slides and has caused several closures on the mountain this week, and has forced them to constantly evaluate and monitor conditions up there.

The skier wandered into an area that was already closed, triggering the avalanche.

Nobody was caught in it though, but several runs were closed and will stay that way for now.

East Rim, Haskill Slide, Evan’s Heaven, Hell Roaring Basin, and First Creek will all be shut down.

Polumbus asks skiers to constantly check the ski report for the most up to date conditions and closures.
