WEST GLACIER – Two women are dead after a multi-vehicle crash near West Glacier on Wednesday afternoon.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper James Hawkins tells MTN News that the accident happened around 4 p.m. at mile marker 166.

Hawkins says a small Chevy passenger car was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 2, when for unknown reasons that vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a guard rail.

The passenger car then went into the path of oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes and collided with a sprinter van.

The female driver of the car and a female passenger were both killed. A child in the car was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center, but is not believed to have serious injuries.

The driver of the van was not hurt.

The Montana Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash and the identities of the victims have not been released pending family notification.
