Whitefish looking at new parking options

WHITEFISH – Despite a new parking garage, locals still struggle to find parking with limited parking spaces.

Hilary Lindh with the City of Whitefish says the big issue is a lack of employee parking. Currently, employees of local businesses are parking in front of the stores and taking up spaces for potential customers.

Lindh elaborates on this saying that local employees have nowhere else to park.

The city has been working with planners to decide on some “pilot parking” options for the city. Lindh says she hopes to see some of these options before the summer tourist rush.

“Are there ways we can expand local transit or have people ride their bikes more or make it more convenient, so that not everybody has to drive their car to downtown,” Lindh said.

One option is to provide better local transit so folks don’t have to park downtown. Another option is a temporary employee parking lot and stricter parking enforcement to limit long term parking.
