MISSOULA — Lynn Lease of Missoula created a new Facebook group last week with one goal in mind -- to bring back the Santa flyover.

It seems that Santa has taken the last ten years or so off from this Missoula tradition, but this year, Lease is determined to bring back the holiday magic. After all, couldn’t we all use a little cheer after such a long year?

The Santa fly-over involves a helicopter, some Christmas lights, a little financial support, and a lot of Christmas spirit. If all goes as planned, Santa will fly over Missoula and nearby towns, signifying the countdown to Christmas.

After forming her group, Lease told MTN News there were countless members sharing their own memories of watching Santa fly over the valley, now they all want to do the same for their children and grandchildren.

With over 900 members in the Facebook group, Lease is confident that enough folks in the community want to see the tradition return, but they still need to secure a pilot for the flight. If all comes together, Lease knows it will make for a special Christmas.

“I can already imagine the wonder and amazement in the eyes of every child here in our community,” said Lease, “Originally, I was thinking strictly of the kids, but as people have commented on their memories and how they hope to be there to see their grandbabies see this...Honestly, that's kind of what's driving me right now, and I love my kids and I love my family so much that I want them to experience this amazing tradition.”
