KALISPELL — Volunteers placed 1,800 wreaths on the graves of fallen veterans laid to rest in the Flathead Valley on Friday.
The local Civil Air Patrol Squadron in Kalispell placed holiday wreaths on graves at Glacier Memorial Gardens, Conrad Cemetery and Woodlawn Cemetery.
Civil Air Patrol Retiree Bob Schneller said this is the ninth annual year of celebrating fallen veterans with remembrance wreaths.
He added that the squadron raised over $18,000 to purchase and ship the wreaths from Maine.
Schneller said more than 60 Flathead Valley volunteers helped lay the wreaths in just three hours.
"The local Flathead community came out as they do every year for us and they helped us lay the wreaths that we needed to lay," said Schneller.
Schneller says that the holiday wreaths will remain up through the winter.
Fundraising for the wreaths originally began in May.
