KALISPELL — Teachers from around the Flathead Valley took part in a photoshoot Thursday to send positive messages to their students while schools remain closed due to COVID-19 concerns.
Wedding and family photographer Kelly Kirksey told MTN News that her own children were beginning to miss their teachers and going to school.
So, she wanted to find a way to let Flathead Valley teachers share positive messages and signs to their students.
Many teachers aren't in school right now as Governor Steve Bullock closed all schools to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"The kids have just been missing their teachers and I thought what could I possibly do to, you know bring some fun, hope and lightness to the situation," explained Kirksey.
Kirskey offered free pictures for teachers in Woodland Park of them holding positive messages to their students.
"So we just asked the teachers to get a poster board, get a sign to give a statement to their kids," said Kirksey. "Anything they wanted to tell their kids, anything they wanted their kids to know."
Many teachers -- including math teacher Terri Dierenfield -- miss their students. "My sign said I miss my mathematicians and I think about them every day, which is true."
Second-grade teacher Jasmine Chase came dressed as her favorite Disney princess because her students love when she dresses up.
"This is just a great opportunity to let our parents know that we love them, let our students know that we love them and we miss them desperately and we can't wait to be back with them," Chase said.
Teachers either stayed in their cars as they waited or stood six feet away from each other adhering to social distancing.
Kirksey told MTN News that over 50 teachers showed up on Wednesday and that she was expecting even more on Thursday.
