WHITEFISH — A generous donation will soon make a major impact for the Big Mountain Fire District.
Big Mountain Fire Chief Ben DeVall said a recent $600,000 private donation will allow the firefighters association to purchase a new rescue-tower fire truck.
DeVall said the truck is 2017 model with a 51ft ladder.
The new rescue-tower replaces an existing 1997 model that only has an attached ground ladder at 35 ft.
He said the new truck is needed to reach tall buildings in the area when disaster strikes.
Mark and Robyn Jones of Texas made the donation and are currently building property on Big Mountain.
DeVall said he was overwhelmed with emotion when he heard news of the donation.
“I was shocked, I’m still shocked that it’s a reality that we will have a new truck this summer and it’s not something that we will have to wait 5-7 years to fund,” said DeVall.
DeVall adds, the new fire truck will be coming from Michigan and should arrive in Whitefish in July.
