Budget issues lead to Glacier National Park to sever ties with Flathead County in 2019.

Park officials are now doing research to determine what companies are interested in providing 35 new drivers for the park's shuttles.

Glacier National Park reported that three million visitors came through their gates in 2019with Flathead County Commissioner Randy Brodehl saying that 200,000 of them used the shuttle service.

Brodehl told MTN News that Glacier National Park used to pay Flathead County $800,000 to operate the shuttle service.

However, with drastic visitation increase, Brodehl explained that the county needed around $1.4 million to successfully operate the service.

Glacier National Park spokeswoman Gina Kerzman says that visitors will see new bus drivers by this summer.

"Our intention is the shuttle system will be in place this summer for the season. So, for the visitor really nothing is going to change," explained Kerzman.

Kerzman says the park hopes to award a contract for new shuttle drivers by the end of March.
