MISSOULA — In a press released sent out on Friday afternoon, due to the concerns of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Kyiyo Native American Student Association at the University of Montana decided to cancel the 52nd annual Kyiyo Celebration.
The celebration had been scheduled for April 17th through the 18th.
“While canceling is a hard decision to make, it’s important to us that we take any actions we can to protect our elders, who are most susceptible and at risk,” said Marcos Lopez, president of Kyiyo Native American Student Association.
The celebration is one of the oldest student-run powwows in the country.
