MISSOULA — The west edge of the Riverfront Triangle, which has been a long-vacant area in downtown Missoula, will finally see some development.

Monday night, Missoula City Council gave developers at the Wise Enterprise Group the go-ahead to rezone the parcel at 601 West Broadway into the Central Business District.

The rezoning would allow for a better mix of commercial and housing development in Missoula's core urban area.

Project designs presented to the city so far are preliminary, but we could see a multi-story, multi-use building with a wide walking path along the river.

Ward 2 City council member Jordan Hess said the project is a strategic rezone that meets our city's planning goals.

"It’s in the downtown area, which is where we want to see thoughtful density, and accomplishes some of our goals by retaining the riverfront trail aspect of the former zoning district," said Hess.

Our partners at the Missoula Current say we could see ground breaking on the project as early as next spring.
