MISSOULA — A Missoula search and rescue group says recent statistics that were released about missing persons over the last three years are daunting, but they won't stop looking for missing people.
It's been almost two years since Jermain Charlo went missing. And still, the Lifeguard Group says it hasn't and won't stop looking for her.
Charlo was last seen at the Orange Street Food Farm in Missoula on June 16, 2018.
The National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women is Tuesday. On this day of awareness, local human trafficking experts say the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People's movement concerns everyone.
The Lifeguard Group executive director Lowell Hochhalter says the numbers are frightening, but it becomes personal when he's walking the countryside, trying to find someone.
"The statistics absolutely, they will continue to grow and expand," Hochhalter said. "But the mistake would be to pay so much attention to the statistics that you forget the faces, and you forget the names. Statistics are easily read and pushed aside, but when you see the face, and you know the names, you can't help but get involved."
Hochhalter says they will continue to work with law enforcement and Charlo's family to find answers.
