60 Minutes correspondent shares her story in Missoula

MISSOULA – 60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan says journalism is not under attack right now any more than it’s been in past decades — and reporters today must always find the truth and report it, even if it’s not popular.

Logan was in Missoula on Wednesday to speak at the annual Missoula Chamber of Commerce dinner.

She’s been a professional journalist since she was 17 years old and has been on the front lines of the war in Afghanistan and the battle against Ebola in Africa.

MTN News spoke with her about the media’s laser-focused attention on President Trump, something she believes has taken the attention away from other important stories that need telling including the administration’s policies in the Middle East.

Logan also told MTN News that in any story there is only one truth and it’s a reporters job to find it even if it’s difficult — and she believes it’s important for ‘news consumers’ to be skeptical about where their news is coming from and take the time to dig a little deeper.

“And I believe this because I’ve worked alongside other journalists who are just the same, that we work for something that’s much bigger than all of us. And it’s called the truth, and there’s only one truth,” Logan said.

“And we like to say that there are lots of different truths or that the truth depends on the color of your skin or where you grew up or whether you were rich or poor and actually that’s not true at all. Perception is defined by those things and by different things. Truth is not defined by us or any one of those things. It is or it isn’t,” she added.

Logan has won numerous Emmy and Murrow awards for her reporting.
