The theme of this year’s events at the University of Montana is “Homecoming 2018 – Montana Strong.”

MISSOULA – The University of Montana spirit squad and drum line announced the kickoff to homecoming week on Monday.

Kids and families got to take pictures with Monte and cheer while the alumni association announced prizes and upcoming events at the Southgate Mall.

This week the annual Hello Walk and decorating contest welcomes people to visit campus and there’s also a couple of new features to homecoming week.

People can buy glowing luminaria to honor a UM alum that will be lit up and placed around the oval for Friday night’s pep rally.  Organizers told MTN News they have a special theme for this year.

“Homecoming this year is Montana Strong and I’m excited to have all of our alumni and friends back showing how strong the University of Montana is and will be going into the future. We’re just really excited,” said Angela Weisenburger with the UM Alumni Association.

Organizers say that volunteers are still needed to help repaint the M on Wednesday.
