MISSOULA – Presidential visits are pretty rare for Missoula.
While the Garden City has had its fair share of Presidential candidates rally here in in the last few years – including Bernie Sanders, then-candidate Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — it’s been 64 years since a sitting president has paid a visit.
Thanks to a bit of digging through the archives we found that the last president to visit was President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954. His visit was to dedicate the US Forest Service Smokejumper headquarters.
President William Taft made a quick stop by train at the Northern Pacific station in 1909 while President Harry Truman also stopped by train in 1950.
President Trump will be the fourth president to stop in Missoula when he arrives for his 6:30 p.m. rally at the airport.
