MISSOULA – Montana state Rep. Adam Hertz is making a push to get a traffic light at the intersection of Flynn Lane and Mullan Road in Missoula.

He says growth on the west side in recent years has made that intersection increasingly busy, and for many that’s the main arterial in the area, especially for those with students at nearby Hellgate Elementary. Hertz started a petition on change.org on Monday and already has over 1,000 signatures from folks in the community.

Because the intersection is under the jurisdiction of the city, he says he hopes the petition will open the door for discussion.

“What I wanted to do was start the conversation. I wanted this petition in order to start the conversation to show that there is a critical mass of folks wanting a solution,” Hertz said. “So really this is the conversation starter, and hopefully we can hand it over to the city with a lot of signatures on it, and let them know that the neighborhood wants a solution.”

A representative from the City of Missoula was unable to speak to us about plans for the intersection, but will be available next week.
