MCPS announces leadership changes at 4 schools

MISSOULA – Missoula County Public schools announced the following leadership changes for Franklin Elementary, C.S. Porter Middle, Sentinel and Seeley-Swan High Schools.

Lynsi Morris, current MCPS Instructional Coach, will fill the principal position at Franklin Elementary starting with the 2019-20 school year.

Prior to her service in Missoula, Ms. Morris, taught 6th and 7th grade Math, English and Science at Utterback School(2013) and served as the Principal PreK-3 at Meadowlark Elementary, K-12

Curriculum Coordinator, Title 1 and Gifted and Talented Coordinator (2014-2015) for Conrad Public Schools. Ms. Morris taught 4th grade (2011-2013) at Centennial Elementary and Kindergarten and

1st grade (2006-2011) at Greenhurst Elementary in Nampa, ID while also serving at the Early Year Reading Intervention Coordinator and Title 1/ELL Coordinator.

Ty Solberg, current C.S. Porter Assistant Principal, will fill the principal position at C.S. Porter starting with the 2019-20 school year. Mr. Solberg has served as the C.S. Porter Assistant Principal for the past five years. He has also served MCPS as a teacher at C.S. Porter from 2004-2014 and as the golf and basketball coach at Big Sky High School.

Ryan Rettig, current Principal of Washington Elementary in Kennewick, WA, will fill the principal position at Sentinel starting with the 2019-20 school year. Rettig previously served as the Vice Principal of Kennewick High School (2012-2016) in Kennewick, WA and Richland High School (2007-20012) in Richland, WA. He also served as the Athletic and Activities Director at Umatilla High School (2006-2007) in Umatilla, OR. Mr. Rettig taught Social Studies at Richland High School (2002-2006) and Language Arts at Barry Goldwater High School (2000-2002) in Phoenix, AZ.

Kellen Palmer, current Instructional Coach at Douglas High School in Douglas, WY will fill the principal position at Seeley-Swan starting with the 2019-20 school year.

Mr. Palmer previously served as a Math teacher and basketball coach at Douglas High School. Prior to his time in WY, Palmer served as the Assistant Coach of the University of Montana- Western

Men’s Basketball team (2009-2010) in Dillon, MT

Superintendent Mark Thane is proud to see each of these leaders assume these new leadership positions. “I am excited to see these new leaders continue to help our district as well as their school communities in reaching our full potential,” commented Thane.
