MISSOULA – The University of Montana is considering moving the library at the Missoula College campus to make room for a child daycare facility.

UM is in need of a new space after the previous one in McGill hall was shutdown due to asbestos exposure.

The move would need to happen in the next few weeks because the temporary space in the college of education won’t be available in May.

No final decision has been made and ASUM wants to hear from students and parents on what they think the effects could be.

Administration will make the choice on where the child care facility will be relocated, but students have expressed some concern that this would mean that Missoula College Campus would lose their library all together.

ASUM president Alex Butler says that’s not true.

“It’s unfortunate that that’s been going around because that’s just not the case,” Butler said. “Administration and staff at Missoula College they’re basically the ones that are charged with having to find a new location within the building. What I can say is that if the only option was to have the library completely removed I would not pursue this,” Butler said. “I wouldn’t have even taken a tour over there if I knew that would have been the case. So it is unfortunate that that information has gone around but it’s just not true. The library will still be in the building.”

Butler will be at the Missoula College campus on Wednesday taking questions from 11:30 a.m.  to 1 p.m. at the main entrance.
