MISSOULA – Missoula’s newest hotel isn’t even a week old. But the developers of the new “Residence Inn by Marriott” say they’re forging ahead with plans to open a second hotel next door.

Construction on the new AC Hotel by Marriott, which will be adjacent to the Residence Inn at the corner Main and Pattee, is set to start in a few months. And Andy Holloran of HomeBase Partners believes it will be a perfect fit.

“We’re going to introduce the AC by Marriott hotel, which is a perfect complimentary hotel to the Residence Inn,” Holloran said. “And we’ll start that this summer. We love Missoula. We love downtown Missoula. And we’re going to continue to invest.”

The AC Hotel is an international brand for the Marriott chain and will feature 105 rooms on six stories. The hotel will cater to leisure travelers and extended family stays, occupying the lot where the old Firestone store has been for years, a building which served as the construction office during the Residence Inn project.

Holloran says HomeBase will be building on the working relationship it’s developed with the city on the deconstruction of the Missoula Mercantile. And he hopes this project will continue to show Missoula residents that the company respects the city’s history, and wants to build on that business legacy.

“At some point people will say, HomeBase and Andy did exactly what they said they would do. Hopefully, they will say ‘they did more.’ Because it was always our intention and our goal to honor the history of this building. The history of this place of commerce and trade,” Holloran said.

If all goes according to plan, the new AC Hotel should open later next year.
